Biography

Professor Levert is a lecturer of documentary film in Spelman's Department of Art and Visual Culture. Along with her teaching responsibilities, Prof. Levert will have significant responsibilities as she supports the College's Digital Moving Image Salon and develops a new program in documentary filmmaking. The Atlanta native received her MFA in documentary film production at The City University of New York.

As a live events freelance producer, she created her own company, Trevela Film Events and Marketing; and for six years she executive produced the Atlanta 48 Hour Film Project and Festival. Prof. Levert also produced the live broadcast of the Kreyol Fest, an all-day Brooklyn music festival initially created to celebrate Haitian culture and boost the spirits of individuals after the country's devastating earthquake in January 2010. As the associate director of the Documentary Forum at City College of New York, she was responsible for creating, producing and hosting film screenings, workshops and panels.  Prof. Levert is the founder of the Atlanta Documentary Meetup and is developing, "Yummy Day of Docs: Films and Food."

As a filmmaker she created two short films, “Shake It Up and Shake It Down” about Freaknik, the Black College spring break celebration held in Atlanta, Georgia. Her second film, “The Wedding Proposal,” not only earned her a masters of fine arts in documentary film from the City College of New York, but it also won awards and played in over 20 film festivals.
