Biography
Julia Elizabeth Neal (she/her/hers) specializes in modern and contemporary art in the United States, with a particular focus on conceptual and performance-based practices by Black artists engaging politics of identity and (trans)nationalism since the “post-war” era. Neal is a terrific baker and cook and enjoys hiking, yoga, pilates and watching basketball in whatever spare time she can muster. She is excited to join Spelman this year because of its emphasis on excellence and criticality, which enables robust class discussion and engagement.
