Biography
Abayomi Ola is associate professor of art history in the department of art and visual culture. His scholarly interests include visual satires of power in Africa and its Diasporas. Ola holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in art history respectively from the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a B.A. in fine arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife) Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
A Chevening scholar, Ola has received several honors and awards including the Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart) Fellowship, the Institute of International Education (IIE) Richard A. Horovitz Professional Development Fellowship, and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Frederick Burkhardt fellowship. He has published essays in journals, encyclopedia and as book chapters, and a book titled Satires of Power in Yoruba Visual Culture (Durham: Carolina Academic Press, 2013).
