Biography

Dr. Fernanda Guida holds a Ph.D. and M.A. degree in romance languages from the University of Georgia, with an emphasis in Portuguese language and literature, a secondary emphasis in Spanish culture and literature, with focus on adaptation studies and intermediality. Before joining Spelman College, she was the director of the Portuguese Program at the Lauder Institute at University of Pennsylvania, where her responsibilities included teaching and overseeing all courses in Portuguese as well as coordinating the Summer Immersion Program in Brazil as part of the Latin America area of concentration of the International Studies Program.

Dr. Guida has also been a visiting professor at Universidade Federal de Sao Joao del Rey (UFSJ) in Brazil and the overseas coordinator of the Portuguese Flagship Program from the University of Georgia. She has been an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) tester and rater since 2015. Her main research and academic interests include Brazilian literature, culture, history and society, foreign language education, adaptation studies and intermediality.
