Biography

Dr. Janae Baptiste Brown earned her B.S. in Chemistry/Biochemistry from the University of West Florida in 2013 and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2018. She has been a teaching post-doctoral scholar at UMBC since 2018 where she taught biochemistry courses, organized a summer research program for minority students, and served as a research mentor for dozens of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Dr. Brown’s research team at Spelman College will focus on solving novel protein structures involved in the approaches that viruses, parasites, and bacteria use to infect hosts. She is passionate about teaching as well as mentoring and looks forward to contributing to the Spelman College community.
